The Christmas Experiment! Dec. 28th, 2009 @ 09:05 am
[info]brianmclean
I tried an experiment this year, since it was an opportune year to try it: Away from my family, I enforced my usual anti-commercialization policy and didn't get anybody anything, and generally speaking everybody politely followed suit, and for that I'm grateful. Where this year went beyond that is that besides a Skype call to the folks I did nothing for the day itself. No party, no feast. I had Jack In The Box for dinner and played WoW and DJ Hero most of the day, just what I said I'd do beforehand. The house was almost completely empty; 3 of the 5 tenants were off visiting family which left just Tren and myself, and Tren's a guy who is perfectly happy sitting in his room all day so that basically gave me the run of the house.

How did I feel? Well, it was kind of curious. On the one hand I definitely enjoyed having lots of me time. I played WoW, I ran heroics, I got lots of badges and geared up my fresh 80. I've nearly finished DJ Hero, and aside from some quirkyness with the turntable I've really dug that game. (Aside: Fellow Bemani nerds, does the turntable drop a lot of scratches or do I really just suck/not know exactly how it works yet?) All of that was great.

Introspection and request )

Manga has been boxed up. Changling and Wraith books too. still have to do random books lego models clothes and then obtain a U-haul trailer for packing. Gonna call the apartment complex to see if they obtained the checks I mailed to them. Also got all my Xmas Wrapping done as well =D

Still can't believe this is happening and so soon.

Prep for the 1st week of work: I've decided against a hotel in/near DC and will be commuting instead. Since I can get gas reimbursement for the first week and not hotels.

So yeah. Long story short, I was having some beers at a friends place when a bunch of Indians pulled a home invasion on us. I got made an example of. 4 stitches later, Merry fucking Christmas.

Please be safe everyone. It's a tough thing this day and age it seems.

I'll throw a big post together sooner or later. Can't do it now as I'm just gonna go off on a big racial tangent about how much of a hate on I got for the Indians around here. Not the Natives though. They're cool and work and don't pull this kind of shit.

And there I go. Later folks.

Moving Progress Dec. 21st, 2009 @ 08:34 pm
[info]blackravenwyrd
The big phase began today: DVDs and toys. The transformers are wrapped up and put in boxes. sadly their war will have to wait for a bit til I can get more room for em. Though I may want my Animated Soundwave twins and anniversary prime to be rocking out on my computer desk.

DVDs have all been stored up. still a bit of the World of Darkness books and my manga collection to fight through. Still some minor trash duty Purple duty to do but I have high hopes.

Otherwise its hotel rooms in DC from the 4th to to 9th for the first week o training. Apartment House should be set for my move on the 29th. All that remains is Cable/Internet Uhaul and some minor banking issues. Lots of packing too.

Saturday: Played WoW, took a nap, went out with friends for miniature golf (I had a pretty exceptional game for me and won), had a good mongolian buffet with said friends, and went window-shopping at Fry's to cap it off. It might sound dull to some but for me that was basically the most awesome Saturday I've had in years and they should all be like that. I was even within 20 feet of a Beatmania IIDX machine and refrained from playing it, it was that good.

Life's moving along. My house is out on the market but of course it's Christmas week. We've actually had some interest from renters already but I don't expect anything to happen this week or next, which is fine. 'Tis the season. :) Hope everybody has a good holiday this week and enjoys some time off with friends and family.

[Locals] Beer Tasting! Dec. 17th, 2009 @ 12:18 am

Get yo'self to mah place for a titanic battle between American Belgian-style Ale and a true Belgian (Trappist) Ale!

We have Ommegang Abbey Ale and Westmalle Dubbel on offer and we'll see which is better this Friday.

They have the same scores on BeerAdvocate... but will they score the same with my palate? Only time (and taste) will tell.

Wow, This is Some Stupid Drama Dec. 16th, 2009 @ 11:13 pm
[info]tetsusaiga1370
To those who haven't read a while back, I discussed someone not liking me b/c of me getting more attention then they do. It's how I basically don't really do anything, and people give me more attention than this person, and they don't like me, or the people around me for it.

Those in the KYF know this, but there was a bit of a "debate," so to say. Jokes were made, and things suddenly got out of hand. I opened my phone at work and found these messages sent to me. I'm going to actually spell things correctly, but use the words he did. In bold italic parentheses will be what's going through my head.
===
"Just as an FYI you do encourage it (getting attention) one pretty wrong way. You are a psychology major so I'm just stating and not trying to drama provoke you right now. (No, I know what you're trying to do)
But serious, you let certain girl that you know want to get with you cuddle and snuggle and touch you up in your personal space. (These girls being who? My friends? Ones that I know are taken and I'm not trying to break up? When in the community we're in, giving hugs is almost a prerequisite. Oh no, I'm more hug-able) That is a true histrionic person. (B/c that's me. All the way)
That's not the best way to treat people you know like you. (What?) Just like I don't let Kaz hang and cuddle on me It's leading him on just like you do with people. (Didn't you and Kaz go out for a while? Yes you did. Aren't you two both twig thin narcissists? There can't be competition over who gets to be the pretty one. I digress, I'm leading people on w/ hugs and cuddles. Really? So being friendly enough to give hugs makes me a deceitful whore?)
I do want attention b/c I have come a long way from hating myself and it's nice to know my work is noticed since I take hard core care of myself. I don't want others not to get attention Just think it should be more shared as I try to share good things about others. (So you're admitting you're a socialistic narcissist? Does taking "hard core care of myself" mean "starve myself and buy pretty things to make me look good"? B/c that's what I've seen Oh Lord, that part killed me a bit)
You won't find me using anything sexual which includes allowing someone to reach their hand in my pants (yeah >.>)just to string them along. (I don't see much of anything sexual coming from you. Y'all are a freaking ice queen who won't let yourself be sullied by the touch of us lower people. Nor do I string anyone along w/ my 'sexual prowess', by the way.)
So you do warrant your attention in a way not all that healthy and as a psychology buff, you should see that." (But cross dressing and trying to look more like a girl and saying "I want to to that" in regards to drag queens is a much healthier way to get attention? Or maybe cam whoring myself on art pages in said girls clothing and fish for compliments there instead? That's healthier, right?)

Thoughts anyone?

Someone just can't handle that I'm prettier. =P

Somewhere in the Background Gackt is telling you to Stay the Ride Alive Dec. 16th, 2009 @ 05:35 pm

Back from my Apartment hunting in VA. The Town of Culpeper is very nice looking it reminds me of Athens, OH. Some things that I will do next time I head down (as in the actual moving) are as follows:

- Be sure to leave earlier enough so that you arrive with light in the town: I left around 11:30am on Monday and arrived in town at 9:30pm in the dark checking directions can be a pain especially when...

- Don't drive the backroads! Even if Google says its shorter, in my case Virginia is Mountainous and the roads are twisty not good a night with fog and no lighted roads. I swear if I saw someone running around asking if I seen their wife or daughter with that much fog I am not staying when Pyramid Head pops up.

- Make sure you have legible directions. the hotel directions were small script compared to google's and they both used google map. I rectified this for the trip back.

- Try to divide the big trip over days so as to prevent driver's ass. Your thighs, elbows etc will thank you.

Now I need to do some moving prep and budget planning because I plan on heading down the 29th. I have to pay utilities and both apartment complexes didn't give definates. I will say this though. I am liking the one apartment's townhouses. lotsa breathing room.

More on the town. Culpeper is a crossroads of two avenues: Civil War sites and Wine. Yeah I'm pert near several vineyards. Infact during my drive back I saw one already bear due to winter's approach. Friends of mine who like wine please check the virginia lists and please be kind on my monetary concerns ;0

So I got a clipping from a Christmas cactus when I was a sophomore in high school, which was... 1996 I think. It started out as only a strand of 4 leaves(?) in length, and has since then grown into a huge plant.

It takes a bit of work to get it to bloom, usually nothing that I have ever aimed for because certain conditions have to be met. But imagine my surprise today when I discovered this:

Also, while Pat was over last night the three of us decided to have a fun science experiment and put a CD in the microwave. It was awesome, and also ended up being my very first youtube video. It's crappy quality but it's also totally awesome.
